Pregnancy Labor

A memorable moment in a couple’s life is the birth of the child. Moments are filled with anxiety, fear and are a unique celebration and experience of life. You being a mother can remain confident during the labor if well informed, supported and can be free of fear. Labor is critical as unexpected can any time happen, it is difficult to control all aspect delivery and labor but let not this bother you. You should go confident sharing and asking all that you doubt with your physician and partner and develops hopes and strength. Every decision at this point of time should be done keeping in mind the best of you and the child. Fear and anxiety will be mixed with doubt and uncertainty if this is your first child. But not to worry in any moment as the people surrounding you are always at the best of your interest.

Beginning of Labor

Uterus is a powerful muscle relaxing and tightening of which takes place during labor, pushing the baby through birth canal allowing the cervix to open and stretch. Labor is never the same in all women, feeling of patterns in lower back or pelvis of dull cramps that are similar to menstrual cramps. Have the physicians contact number, contact him when the labor begins and get the guidelines till he attends you. But you will be always advised by the physician to get into hospital before an hour of beginning of labor. But if it is not the first pregnancy then you are asked to be sooner in the hospital as it can take place still fast and early. Care should be taken to contact physician if the vaginal bleeding is noticed other than a kind of pinkish and if there is no any sign of baby moving for a longer time and if pain is felt instead of contractions.

This is a sign that placenta has blocked the uterus exit called placenta previa, where there can be blocking or abruption with unusual severe pain with placenta prematurely separating prematurely from uterus reducing oxygen supply of the baby. In such cases condition should be checked and baby should be monitored, if doctor suspects you will be called to the birth center and monitored throughout the labor. Here are some pictures detailing the stages of labor for your better understanding of the stages.

Labor Stages

There are three stages in labor. First stage begins with contractions and full dilation of cervix, delivery of the baby is in the second stage and in the third stage placenta and the membranes are delivered after birth. The time of full labor varies in all women and if it is the first labor then it takes longer time in hours. Some vary from 24 hours and half of them will exceed 12 hours and 20 in 100 cases will last longer than 24 hours, in the first labor. Labor is again divided into latent or early phase, active phase and the transition phase in the first or longer labor.
