Ectopic Pregnancy

Ectopic pregnancy is an abnormal case of pregnancy caused very rarely in ladies. This is caused when the fertilized egg gets settle in the fallopian tube rather than the uterus. This is caused when the mucous membrane in the fallopian tube gets infection or other inflammation.

Causes of Ectopic Pregnancy

This type of pregnancy is caused mostly when the mother has operated the tubes previously. It is also caused in ladies who does termination of pregnancy. If a mother suffers from ectopic pregnancy previously, she will be prone to the same in future. Some of the rare cases of ectopic pregnancy is caused due to the use of some DES drugs. Smoking has been found to be a low risk factor in causing this problem. Some of the high risk factors include multiple sexual partners and infertility.

Symptoms of Ectopic Pregnancy

When a mother is suffering from this type of pregnancy she will be feeling pain in the lower tummy. Also the mother’s vagina will be bledding. She will feel the pain in the shoulder tips when she breathes. All these are caused due to the severe pain felt in the abdomen region. Some of the other symptoms are dizziness, increased pulse rate, diarrhoea and low blood pressure.

Tests to Find Ectopic Pregnancy

Vaginal Ultrasound scan can identify if the mother is having the ectopic pregnancy. Laproscopy is another effective and risky method to find out an ectopic pregnancy in women.

Ectopic Treatments

If the mother is well and stable, the pregnancy could be absorbed gradually. Ectopic can be treated medically with a drug called methotrexate which will shrink the pregnancy in the tube. Medication is done only if the pregnancy is in its early stage. The laparoscopic method is the other method where the pregnancy or the tube itself is removed.Usually people prefer to remove the fallopian tube to avoid further ectopic pregnancy. The last method is the common open surgery. The risks involved in surgery and medication of ectopic pregnancy is that there are chances that the fertilized egg gets ruptured inside the tube which leads to vaginal bleeding and should be treated immediately. Thus prevention is the best cure for ectopic pregnancy.
