Stretch Marks And Pregnancy Are Inter-Linked

Pregnancy brings with it some of the most common problems and one of them is getting stretch marks. This is due to the growth of the belly during pregnancy accompanied with increase in weight etc and immediately after delivery there is a sudden loosing of the muscles around the stomach and there is also weight loss which the skin sometimes takes time to recover due to such extremities women develop stretch marks or striae.

In the beginning there is a purple color or red color marks which appear on the skin. These marks usually appear in the mid region. The continuous stretch on the dermis leaves behind a scar which can be seen in many parts of your stomach, breasts, hips, thighs as well as the lower and upper region of your back. Though these marks take its own time to heal the healing process depends upon a number of other factors like the kind of diet you follow, age, type of skin or skin tone etc.

There are a number of treatments to help diminish these stretch marks like in surgical methods there is the use of chemical peels, dermabrasion and in some acute cases the use of laser surgery is also used. There are many creams and lotions available in the market which though give you the assurance of removing these stretch marks but are not as effective as they promise to be.

Which is the best mode of treatment?

The best thing that you can do is to consult a dermatologist or in case the stretch marks are very severe you can consult a surgeon and ask them for their guidance for the correct treatment. But then studies have shown that if a woman develops stretch marks there are chances that she may develop pelvic prolapse which is a structural weakening of the pelvis. The symptoms are that the woman may suffer from pain, lack of self-restraint over her bowel movements, vaginal bulge etc. Though most of the time it has been found that these stretch marks fade away with time.

It is not only women who develop stretch marks even men have been found to have developed stretch marks but this is due to the sudden increase or decrease in weight.

Tests conducted on women have shown that 70% of women suffered from pelvic prolapse and the symptoms were more or less the same that was found to be in women who had stretch marks. The reasons included were age, menopause, hemorrhoids, the number of pregnancies, had the women taken oral steroids etc. Though this fact revealed that there was no connection between stretch marks and pelvic prolapse it was found that women who developed stretch marks had great chance of developing pelvic prolapse. However it has been found that due to the ever growing size of the belly during pregnancy there is a lot of stretch and strain on the skin which leads to stretch marks on the stomach and the lower parts of the body.
