Special Tests During Pregnancy

Pregnancy is considered to be a very special time in a woman’s life, however, it is also considered to be a time when you need to take great care of your health from many points of view. You are being responsible for creating a new life and this responsibility is heavy on yourself, and therefore there are many procedures and tests that need to be done in order to make sure everything is working in the normal manner.

Special tests are conducted in case you are having any kind of complications and routine tests are conducted to make sure your pregnancy is going as per schedule. Diagnostic tests are done in case you have a family history of some kind, or if your age is above 35 years, because the age of the mother and the father play a very important role in the health of the embryo. Also, some women from some specific ethnic backgrounds need to undergo different kinds of special tests because of their risks factors during pregnancy.
Routine tests will include checking the growth of your baby with scans to check that everything is okay and that you baby is not suffering from any kind of disease or abnormality. These checks are also conducted to make sure that the amount of liquids required for the baby to grow well, are measured and that they are in accordance to the normal standards.

Most common tests done during pregnancy will include a blood test to check your type of blood and to check whether you are having any kind of infection or disease that is going to affect your baby. There are some cases where the blood type of the baby and your blood type are incompatible, and this may lead to you losing your baby before it is mature enough to handle the outside world. Testing the blood type can allow the doctors to take proper measures to try and save the baby, however, this also depends a lot on many other factors as well.

Special tests will also allow the doctors to figure out your present health status in regards to your minerals levels especially during pregnancy. Minerals like Iron and calcium are very important for the development of the fetus and acids like folic acid are a must when it comes to the development of the brain. These tests are normally done a few times during pregnancy to make sure that you are taking all the necessary supplements that you require to keep your pregnancy as healthy as possible.

There are other special tests like a pap test which is done to check the changes of the cervix. Also, any kind of infections like STD or Chlamydia can be considered dangerous during pregnancy, and if they are detected well in advance, they can be dealt with in the proper manner.

It is extremely important to undergo all these kinds of tests and those that your doctor recommends to be able to have a safe and healthy pregnancy.
