Home Pregnancy Test Sensitivity

HCG refers to the human pregnancy hormone which is the hormone which is produced during the pregnancy in a women. This hormone is also known as the human chronic gonadotropin. This hormone is produced by the placenta when the fertilized egg attaches it selves with the uterine wall. This hormone will be available in the blood and urine of the women once she starts becoming pregnant. These hormones amount in the blood and urine is detected to confirm if the woman is pregnant or not. The amount of hCG hormone doubles in very two days. Thus as the women becomes the final stage of the pregnancy, she will have more hCG amounts in her blood and urine.

Sensitivity of hCG

The cost of the pregnancy test kit increases as the sensitivity of the kit improves. Some of the costly kits called fast response pregnancy kit are able to detect the hCG levels as low as 12 mIU . These pregnancy kits are able to detect the pregnancy as early as the fertilized egg attaches itself with the uterine wall. In short it is able to detect the pregnancy on the day of missed periods. One of the popular pregnancy test kit called the EPT is able to detect the hCG levels as low as 40 mIU. This is one of the reliable and more user friendly pregnancy kit compared to other brands. Equate, one of the brands of the Wall Mart is the costliest pregnancy kit that is available in the market which has a sensitivity level of 25 mIU.

More Fast means More Cost

The pregnancy tests which are costly are known to be very sensitive. The tests which are able to detect the pregnancy as early as days after the missed periods are known to be costly compared to the pregnancy tests that are able to detect the pregnancy in latter days of pregnancy. For example though EPT is known to be the oldest and more reliable pregnancy tests, people prefer it because of its user friendliness. Thus if the women is not able to afford to get costly test kits, she prefer to get the cheaper one. The only difference is that she will be able to test for pregnancy only after few days of missed periods.

Affects of Drugs

Drugs which are used in fertility are the major sources of hCG. When this drug is taken and then the pregnancy test is taken, the test will show some inconsistent results. Thus these drugs should not be taken while performing the pregnancy test.
