High Risk Pregnancy

It is an obvious fact that every family looks for a healthy pregnancy and subsequently the birth of a healthy newborn. For the majority of women the process of pregnancy follows a healthy and fairly routine course. But there are some cases where there might arouse unhealthy changes, difficulties and challenged along the way leading to high-risk pregnancy. A woman who has a high risk-pregnancy signifies that she stands a greater chance of complications because of the difficult conditions in the stages of her pregnancy. It might be due to a variety of factors. Some of them include her lifestyle or medical status, or several other external factors. Many times it is also seen that pregnancy complication arises unexpectedly and without giving a prior warning, which also makes the situations quite difficult to handle. But at the other times there are certain risk factors, which make the problems, appear more likely. Some of the complications are even unavoidable and with the help of the physician one can manage her risks and work towards the healthy development of the pregnancy. Major advancement in technology has helped to take better care of the mothers and their inborn babies. One should keep herself as healthy as possible before becoming pregnant and should also get early and regular prenatal care during pregnancy. These are the important ways to take the best care of yourself and also of your developed baby.

If one has a chronic condition, one should talk to the health care provider about how to minimize the risk before one gets pregnant. One when a woman becomes pregnant one might also need a health care team to monitor her pregnancy. There are many factors, which contribute major to the high-risk pregnancy and examples of such condition, which complicates a pregnancy, are heart disease, kidney problems, high blood pressure, sexually transmitted disease, diabetes and cancer. Other factors, which complicate pregnancy, are gestational diabetes. There is nothing tepid and fluffy about high-risk pregnancy. In fact the situations can be very scary at times. However high-risk pregnancy is a catchall term and is used to describe women who are on the risk continuum at any point during their pregnancy. One's pregnancy may be termed as high risk if she is under 17 and are at a increased risk of experiencing intrauterine growth restriction, if the woman is carrying more than one baby, if she has a chronic health condition like diabetes or there heart problems, if she has a history of gynecological problems such as endometriosis or pelvic inflammatory disease, or if she has a history of pregnancy loss, if she had two or more second-trimester abortions or if she conceived while making use of IUD. It is not that high-risk pregnancy should always have a high connotation. If taken proper care majority percentage of high-risk pregnancies produce healthy, viable babies. The earlier a problem is detected the better will be the chances for the mother and baby to stay healthy. The mother should also visit the doctors regularly to ensure better protection.
