Montgomery’s Tubercules: What Is It?

Pregnant women often notice some changes in their breast sizes and shape. Certain changes occur in every woman’s breasts during their pregnancies around the areola of their breasts. The areola is the position of the breasts that surrounds the nipple. Montgomery are the glands present in the women that surrounds the areola of her nipples. These Montgomery glands reside near the areola. Montgomery glands undergoe an enlargement during the conceiving of the women and they continues to grow throughout the nursing time of the pregnant woman. The manner of the enlargement of Montgomery glands is such that they appear like tiny bumps that are present on the breasts.

The number of these bumps can vary in number from woman to woman and from one breast to other. Many times, these Montgomery glands or the bumps caused due to them secretes a certain fluid that helps in maintaining the PH level of thee skin of the pregnant woman. Thus, these bumps may help the woman. These Montgomery glands are producers of natural body oil that helps the woman to protect her skin against the growth of any type of bacterial infection. In some cases, a very small quantity of milk may also be secreted through these bumps of Montgomery glands. In order to maintain the process and functioning of Montgomery glands, it is necessary to wash and keep the breasts properly clean.

In fact, Montgomery glands are nothing different and they are simple glands of the women’s breasts. As they often attains a little or more amount of swelling, they looks prominent on the breasts of the woman and often these Montgomery glands and their swelling is considered as a perfect sign of pregnancy. These Montgomery glands are no additional nipples nor do they suggest any trouble or problem. The prominence of Montgomery glands is one of the changes that are brought with the pregnancy in the body of the woman. During the pregnancy, certain changes in the breast tissues are also noticed. Some of the common changes that often occurs in a woman’s breasts during pregnancy are-

The breasts of a woman start getting sore and tender right from the early months of her pregnancy. Although this process of sore breasts does not occur with all women and some women may never notice it. Yet, in some cases, women may also suffer a little pain along with the soreness of her breasts. The first trimester of the pregnancy is often considered appropriate for the occurrence of such changes. Because of this soreness and a little pain, it becomes difficult for women to enjoy sex during the first trimester.

With the progress of pregnancy, certain further changes in the breasts and nipples may be observed. The nipples get a change of colour and they will become large and darker in colour showing more prominence on the breasts. In some cases, some pimples or goose bumps may also occur on the areola of the nipples. These changes are totally natural and harmless and all these types of changes are collectively known as Montgomery tubercles.
