Silent Birth – A Birthing Procedure That Refrains Spoken Words

Silence is said to calm the mind and give you time to draw energy from within. This is the same thing silent birth gives women who are about to give birth. In giving birth, the mother has to be given the most comfortable and convenient environment to keep her calm and focused on what she needs to do in order to ensure a successful delivery. One of these needs is making sure that anything that could distract the mother from focusing on her delivery has to be taken out.

Silent birth implies a somewhat similar concept to that of your “library silence.” When women are in the delivery room, they will not hear anyone saying a word especially those which make them nervous instead of relaxed. There are cases where the intention of the statements being told to the delivering mother is to calm her down, but the way they are being said is not so calming after all.

Even words of cheering or support are not present. This allows the mother to focus her concentration on her breathing, the sensation she has in her womb, her mindset, her heartbeat, and on projecting a positive outcome of the delivery process. It has been found out by scientology practitioners that a certain portion of the human brain, known as the reactive mind, responds negatively to uttered words during the process of giving birth because these words are being registered in the brain during an uncomfortable or traumatic event.

If these words are taken out of the picture, then the situation turns into a comfortable and enjoyable experience for the mother. She gets to feel that she is control and that she has the sole responsibility of being “a mother giving birth” in her hands. On the other hand, the medical team also gets to focus on what they need to do to ensure that the mother gets the best amount of care and support she needs as she goes through the birthing process.

Although the above mentioned statements may sound acceptable and reasonable enough, medical practitioners pointed out that the idea of taking out noise from the birthing process shows no relevant results. Basically, whether a birthing process is on “silent” mode or not, there will be no direct effect to the outcome of the delivery. Such statements have been found to have no scientific explanations other than observations.

Therefore, implementing a silent environment or not is not a vital factor in ensuring a successful delivery. Instead, the needs of the mother and child still stand as the main priority in every delivery setting whether at home or in the hospital. Silence may have a good effect on the delivery outcome, but this does not mean that noise already has a bad effect on the outcome of the delivery. The choice still falls on the hands of the mother if she would like to cherish this moment in silence or have things commence as usual.
