How To Recover From The Vaginal Delivery?

The process of recovering from normal child delivery or what you call vaginal delivery would depend on a variety of factors. The following are experiences that a mother will undergo after vaginal delivery and along with these experiences are what mothers need to do in order to ensure successful recovery.

  • Fatigue is one of the factors that will be experience and also affect that recovery of a mother after giving birth. Recovering from it will greatly depend on the mother’s overall health and well-being. Along with this is the amount of time spent in the entire labor process. The longer the time that a mother experienced in labor, the longer the recovery period would be in order to recuperate from not only fatigue but also the entire health that the mother had prior to giving birth.

Thus, adequate rest and proper nutrition for the mother is highly advisable to facilitate recovery and regaining of normal and optimum health for the mother after giving birth.

  • The amount of tissue torn during episiotomy would also affect the recovery. Recovering from the fatigue will be doubled since the wound in the perineum will create pain sensation to the mother. The larger the wound, the more pain is felt and the longer the time needed in order for such wounds to heal.

Proper wound dressing and appropriate wound dressing is needed. It would also be best to apply cold compress and direct pressure if ever the wound bleeds.

  • The emotional stress of the mother after giving birth would be the next factor. For mothers who had poor emotional support and during the labor process, they would need a longer time to recover and regain normality of self-esteem and strength to face the new responsibility of having a baby.

It would be best to provide emotional support to the mother in order for her to feel that she has all the support that she needs and will need to face the new responsibility. It would also be best to have the father of the child provide constant presence to provide a feeling of security to the mother and for the child as well.

  • Lastly, in order to promote adequate blood circulation and muscle strength, it would be advised to promote early ambulation to the mother.
