How Safe Is It To Have VBAC?

Many women are depressed when they have their first delivery through a c-section. They loose hope of ever being able to have a vaginal birth again in their life. The good news is that it is possible to have vaginal birth after undergoing a cesarean in the previous delivery due to the latest technologies that have been introduced. VBAC is the method that has been gaining popularity in many clinics in the recent times as it has proved to be a successful way of women to have vaginal birth. There are, however, some problems that are associated with this technology and not everyone is qualified to undergo this procedure. The main reason why some people may not be able to undergo VBAC is due to the pregnancy complications that may not allow this medical procedure to be successful. There are many conditions that must be looked at when a woman needs to have VBAC as they must be able to meet some qualification for the midwives to let them undergo the procedure.

What are the qualifications that a person should meet before undergoing VBAC?

  • The first qualification for a woman who had an earlier cesarean is the prior low-transverse c-section. This helps the medical expert to determine if it is safe for a person undergo the procedure
  • A person who is to undergo the procedure must have no scar in their uterus.
  • The age of a person can also determine if they are qualified to undergo the medical process.
  • Women with uterine rupture experiences are not subjected to this procedure as it may put their life at risk as well as the life of the unborn child.

There are, however, some other reasons that may make the VBAC procedure not safe for people who may be qualified to undergo the procedure. The safety of patient is not fully guaranteed and many health clinics are not able to offer these services due to lack of capacity to carryout this procedure. The human resource required and the technical equipment is costly for many clinics to afford. For this procedure to be successfully done there must be adequate equipment and personnel who can handle any complication that may arise.
