How To Choose An Adoption Agency

There have been great improvements in the US when it comes to child adoption and too many agencies have come up which are either genuine or a hoax. While these polarities continue to exist, the question to be raised is how to trust an American adoption agency. It is often very confusing where to start looking for a good adoption agency due to one of the many reasons mentioned above. There are certain key points to remember before approaching any American adoption agency which may help parents or adult to avoid being cheated.

There are many websites on the internet which provide authentic information on adoption agencies. These websites even rank the different agencies across the country according their style of performance. These websites also mention what services the adoption fees cover. There are five basic services which involve the process of adoption and it is not necessary that all adoption agencies might cover these services in the professional fees. For e.g. the five important services are advertising, a process to look for birth mothers. The second step is initial intake where the birth mother makes the initial call to learn about adoption. The next is counseling which is provided to the birth mother. The last three steps involve case management for arranging the adoption, legal formalities and travel if the adoption professional has to do so.

Since all agencies may not carry out all these services, it is better to approach a good American adoption agency through friends and family. Yellow pages do have addresses and phone numbers of adoption agencies but they may not necessarily sound professional since you have no information about them. Depending upon what services each agency offers you need to look upon the risks involved. There are websites which provide clear charts on how the large agencies, attorneys, small agencies, middle agencies and facilitators work independently. While you spend the money for adoption with some of these adoption agencies they clearly mention that you may be spending at the risk of losing your fee without getting any results.

Doing a thorough research on the adoption agency when you have downsized your list of organizations would be the next step. Be sure the adoption agency has had successful adoptions and also in case they have started on international adoption, you may consider moving one step further on employing their services. Just make sure what kind of adoptions they specialize in. Some of them just stick with open and domestic adoptions. Agencies involved with international adoptions might even have strong recommendations from international agencies.

The best way to find out how professional and experienced these agencies are is by asking them important questions regarding the process of adoption. You need to observe their answers and test their knowledge and expertise. The first half an hour of talk would reveal how knowledgeable they are. It is important to compare the fees and services covered for the money between different agencies before deciding for the final one. Finally, a good agency should provide post adoption services.
