Gay Adoption

A study in 1999 proved that the adoption rate among the gays was 38%. This rate strikingly increased to a rate of 46% in the study conducted in the year of 2006. However the gays had to face a lot of difficulties in the adoption procedure.

Supporters of gay adoption

The people who are in the support of gay people for adoption had become very bold to express their thoughts. They state the following reasons to support the adoption among the gays:

  • No research till date has proved that gay and lesbian’s couples can not serve the role of good parents.
  • The people with homosexuality could provide a shelter to those who are in need.
  • If the homosexual are also well secure in the case of financial and education matter then there is no harm to allow gay people to adopt babies.

Even the child welfare league of America is in the favor of the placement of children available for adoption to the gay and the lesbian couples.

There is another institute which has been always in the favor of the Gay adoption. This is the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute. This institute has always campaigned for the friendly adoption laws for the people having homosexuality.

The following list gives the findings of the public on the topic of gay adoption:

  • The adopted children were found to be with more psychological adjustable nature with the gay couples than the children adopted by the heterosexual couples.
  • Still the studies are on the adopted children in their family. But till date the studies has proved them too mixed up more with their families.
  • There are only a few states that would not allow the gay and the lesbian couples to have adopted babies.
  • These laws stopping the gay and the lesbian’s couples to avoid the adoption are a great disadvantage for the children living in the need of homes.

Gay adoption stigmas

This topic has been a sensitive topic for many people around the world. Some of the people just conclude the topic with the very old running thoughts of the people.

These issues must be resolved by a mutual consideration. The following list includes the common thinking and the poplar stigmas that relate the gay and the lesbian adoption:

  • Gender Confusion: many people say that there would be confusion among the adopted children by the homosexual people relating there gender. But till date there is no evidence to prove this statement right.
  • Sexuality identity: there again a myth related for the sexual orientation of the children adopted by homosexual people. They think that such people would find difficulties to choose the orientation of their sexual feelings. Now again there are no grounds to prove this statement right.
  • Relationship problems: some of the people also believe that such adopted children would also have to face some kind of difficulties to maintain a proper social relationship in their life time.
