Watch out for any home having toddler, you will see there a lot of toys. You would see their toys scattered all over. Toddlers like toys very much. Before buying toys for toddlers a few things you should always keep in your mind.

Age guidelines

Many manufacturers put their suggestions regarding the age guidelines on the packages of their toys. You should always keep in the mind for the age of the toddler for which you are buying the toy. The toddler’s age should match to the age guidelines of the toy.

Safety concerns regarding toddler toys

The manufacturer puts the age guidelines on the toys to avoid the occurrence of any accidents. Some toys may contain certain parts that may result in choking hazards. So you must not give a one year old toddler a toy which is meant for three years or above children.

You must be cautious before giving the children battery power toys. They must not be able to handle the power of such battery powered toys.

Cognitive development

A toddler would get frustrated if he is not able to play with any educational toy meant for an older age group. Before giving him the toy you must look for the skill level of your toddler.

Types of toddler toys

There are various kinds of toys available for toddler. Their preferences for the toys would rather change as they would grow up.

• Stacking toys: Toddlers love building stacks from blocks very much. However initially they will just bang these blocks. But with time they would learn to stack up these blocks.
• Pull toys: Toddler would like to pull anything they will get. So, look for toys which play some song or any kind of music whenever they are pulled.
• Push toys: Your toddler would like to push toys as soon as he will start walking. Play vacuum cleaners or lawn movers are some of such toys.
• Small toys: Buy your toddler small manipulative toys like small animals, automobiles etc. Look for the toys which are based on certain themes like zoo, hospital, kitchen, garage etc.
• Puzzles: Puzzles fascinate toddlers very much. Initially toddler will just stack up the pieces of the puzzle but eventually as he would grow up he would learn to arrange the pieces of the puzzle. The puzzle game would also enhance the mental ability of the toddler to recognize images in his mind quickly. Do not look for very big puzzles. Just give him a puzzle containing ten to fifteen pieces.
• Bubbles: Bubbles fascinate toddlers very much. You will have to blow the bubbles for your baby and even then your toddler would be very much fascinated to catch those bubbles. You may buy him a bubble machine or a bubble gun to make the blowing task much easier.
• Books: Buy some fairy tales or short books for your toddler. Read those books whenever he wants you to.
