Toddler Hearing Problems

There are a host of ailments that may start troubling your toddler. From birth there are a lot of chances that it may suffer from some kind of fever or some rash problem. However, these kinds of ailments are visible and easy to notice. Problems like not being able to hear properly are something which is of more concern. This is because of the fact that hearing problems or ailments are not easy to notice and come to terms with. Toddlers may respond to your calls when you call them by looking in the eye. But at that time, it is not because of the fact that it is able to hear you. It may also be on account of the fact that it is being visually stimulated.

In the later years of the growing of the baby, parents realize that their baby may be suffering from some kind of a hearing problem when they see that he or she is not responding to their calls at all. Hearing problems may some times also give way to the toddler speaking late? This is mostly on account of the fact that babies speak whatever they hear. They learn by hearing what is being spoken and then make sounds. So it will not be able to speak any thing when it is not able to hear a single word.

There are a lot of things which can be done to ameliorate this problem. There are listening skill tests that the baby may be subject too. Earlier, this was usually not a norm in many of the hospitals. But nowadays, many hospitals with specialty maternity wards make sure that they subject every baby that is born to such hearing exams to make sure that there will be problem in its growing up years.

If such a facility is not available in your locality, get lists of the centers providing such a facility from your pediatrician. It is very important that you do not delay the proceeding as the problem can get worse if it is not treated. Newborns and babies who are just a few months old are adaptable to changes in their body., if the problems that they face health wise are not dealt with at an earlier stage, it may be difficult to ameliorate them permanently in the future.

After the tests are conducted, the doctor may diagnose the type of hearing problem that your baby faces. If the problem that has been detected is genetic or congenital, then it may take some time before it is cured. For instance, if it is detected that the baby had limited hearing during birth itself, it may be due to some family history or complication during birth like drug overdose, care not taken by mother during pregnancy etc.

However, if the problems pertain to simple infections or injuries, they can be aptly treated in no time. There are a lot of medications that your baby is subject to, in order to make sure that he or she is able to respond to your calls easily and doesn't have any problem comprehending what you speak.
