Toddler Tantrums

Occurrence of toddler tantrum is a normal thing. Some children make use of tantrums very often. And some times they get very serious. Sometimes you got to know the reason for that tantrum and then you would help them to control themselves.

The reason for toddler tantrum

Since toddler can not express their feelings like adults would do, so they get frustrated and make use of tantrums to let understand what they want. They try to gain the attention of other people. They do not think for the consequences. Every thing you do your toddler also wants to do the same. When you stop him to do a particular thing or he is unable to that thing then he gets frustrated.

How should you respond to toddler tantrums?

Initially you loose your temper and you use power struggle with your toddler to make him behave. Now before using power struggle think that what the toddler is going to learn from that. This is not going to teach him to control his emotions. How will be he able to control his cool if you loose your cool in front of him. The toddler will shout even more loudly than you to suppress your voice. You will gain nothing from this, no problem will be solved. So, while responding to toddler tantrums you may keep the following things in your mind:

  • Always maintain your calm.
  • When you speak to him your tone must be firm but you must be slow and calm.
  • To make an easier eye contacts kneel down to the toddler’s level.
  • Just watches for the level of tantrums if it is not so big just ignore it. Your child will stop doing tantrums if he does not get any attention.
  • You must be consistent in the discipline methods you follow in your home.
  • Always love with your toddler as your toddler always expects for security and love from you.
  • Never ever give up to your toddlers tantrums otherwise he would get encouragement for future tantrums.
  • Always protect your child from difficult situations.
  • Always give your child a break to maintain his cool. These timeouts could be very beneficial.

Prevention of toddler tantrums

There are some precautions which would help your toddler from not doing tantrums.

  • Do not give your toddler temptations. Do not do or eat anything in front of your toddler which you are not going to give to your toddler.
  • Very often toddlers use tantrums when they are hungry or when they are tired. So, maintain a particular schedule for your toddler.
  • When you see that your child is going to create problem then try to distract him.
  • Always praise your toddler whenever he shows a good behavior. The will help your toddler from stop using tantrums.

His tantrums will start decreasing as he matures. He would get a sense of his wants. Until then maintain a loving manner to avoid these tantrums.
