Toddler Car Seat

Near about three years ago car safety was not a primary concern. Earlier the kid has to firmly hold the front seat or the dashboard to be safe. Even the seat belt was not used for safety. But now the parents are paying more attention towards the baby’s safety.

Now as your baby is growing, he needs a special seat for him. For that you are required to get a toddler car seat. Many parents keep their baby facing towards back. But when the toddler reaches one year of age he should face forward. If your kid is approaching his first birthday, but still he is weighing less than twenty pounds you should buy a special seat which could be adjustable in the front as well as backward direction. But make sure on his first birthday his seat is facing the rear.

Booster seats

For toddlers weighing at least forty pounds a special kind of seat had been developed known as booster seat. You should not place you child in a booster seat until he has grown considerably. These seats are not meant to fulfill the safety measures. Even the complete harness protection which a car seat belt will provide will not be provided by a booster seat.

How to be sure that a toddler seat fits properly

Before you purchase a toddler seat you should keep two aspects in your mind i.e. the seat fits your car and your child fits in that seat properly. The position of the harness strap must be looked at by most attention. Adjust the slots of the strap if they are under the top of the child’s shoulder. Always read the manual provided by a particular toddler seat manufacturer. According to some manuals the topmost slot for the harness straps is required for all those toddlers who are facing front.

Things you should keep in mind before purchasing a toddler seat

Before you buy a toddler car seat there are certain considerations you should keep in mind. Different car seats differ from each other by only a small feature. The certain considerations for which you should look always are:

  • Take a ready look at the design of the seat, it must be easy to install. This consideration must be at most important if very often you are going to move the seat from one vehicle to another.
  • The five point harness design is the most preferred design. According to certain car safety expert maximum protection is being offered to your toddler in the five point harness design.
  • The belt adjustment, that is, the loosening and tightening of the belt must be easily accessible.
  • You should look for seat which has removable and washable cover. Because babies quite often mess the car seat covers, so it would look very untidy if you are not able to wash the seat cover.
  • The seat must have extra padding to give your toddler complete comfort.
  • Many car seat manufacturers provide the seat with cup holder, which could be used by your toddler to keep his bottle in it.
