Transitioning Work Maternity Leave

Getting a transitioning work maternity leave is very difficult to adjust but if you start planning for this leave you can achieve without much stress.

What are the factors leading to transitioning work maternity leave?

There are many factors that play an important role when you plan your maternity leave, return to work after childbirth etc. Firstly, you need to plan your pre-maternity leave, your maternity leave and finally how to resume your work and taking care of your baby.

How do you go about planning your pre-maternity leave?

There are many things that you need to consider when you plan your pre-maternity leave e.g.:

  1. you need to be flexible i.e. depending upon your employers choice and suggestion you can always come back for either part time work or full time work after childbirth and if you feel you are still unable to return to work you can always extend your leave for a couple of weeks until you are completely prepared to return back to work.
  2. You need to have certain aspects clear like is your baby covered with health insurance and if yes the amount deducted from your salary is a small one or a huge one, how long before you can use this health insurance in case of ill health of your baby etc and these queries are best answered by the head of your human resource department.
  3. You also need to train the person who will be replacing you when you are on your maternity leave so that you will have to face less of stress while you are on your leave.

The need to be in touch with your company while still on maternity leave

Maternity leave is a period when you are supposed to take complete rest, but then you can still be in touch with your company so that when you resume your work after your leave you will be in a better position to get back to work without much headache. Maternity leave period is a time where you need to bond with your baby as much as possible so that you can easily get back to work without the feeling of guilt.

Sending out emails and forwarding messages to the person who will replace you while you are on maternity leave will also be very helpful.

Get ready to resume work

Though this is the most difficult part of your transitioning work maternity leave you need to prepare yourself to resume work keeping in mind certain aspects like:

You need to find alternative ways whereby you can still breastfeed your baby like you can make use of breast pumps so that you can store breast milk, use of breast pads to save your from some embarrassing moments while attending meetings etc.

Preparing your baby especially if your baby is totally depended on your breast milk you need to see that your baby gets used to feeding bottles well in advance so that when you go back to work your baby will not remain hungry, another thing that you need to take care of is find a good day care centre for your baby so that you can work without undue worries and tensions.

Lastly, you need to prepare yourself as you too will need ample of sleep and rest if you want to resume work so you need to reschedule your baby’s sleeping time, also you need to find an overnight baby care so that your baby will be looked after at night while you take the much needed sleep or still seek help from your partner so that your baby will stay with either of you.
