Is the performance review idea worth while when on maternity leave?It has been found that many a times employers have a misconception regarding the skills of a women ones she gets pregnant as they feel that being pregnant or having given birth to a baby makes a women lose her focus on her work, tends to make her unorganized and she no longer has the drive to achieve anything more with regards to her performance etc. If you think the terms used are creating a negative impact than you need to do some review so as to better performance review before you go in for your maternity leave like you can always have a plan. Inform your supervisors before your co-workers get to know about your pregnancy. You also need to chalk out a plan wherein you can try and finish off your work before you go for your maternity leave moreover your company will have time to hire a temporary help in your absence. You can also contribute by working from your home while still on maternity leave or can do it through telecommunication. Make sure that you inform the customers who you deal with regularly that you shall go for maternity leave and that you have given instructions to someone else to contact them while you are on leave etc. Take care of presenting yourself well while still at work during pregnancy also creates a good impact and what with all the small details that you take into consideration regarding your work, your employer and business customers or clients will help you get a good performance review. What if your performance review is not a good one?In spite of doing your best you still don't get a good performance review from your boss than there are different maternity laws at the national level, state level as well as in your company which you can always make good use of, you can also file a case against your employer through the pregnancy discrimination law so that you get the benefits of what is lawfully your own. |
