Resignation Letter Template After Maternity Leave

Think and Act Wisely

Childbirth is a wonderful experience and it changes the outlook of life for every woman. Resuming work after childbirth can be stressful and the decision of quitting work after maternity leave should be considered wisely. As the priorities change after childbirth all you need to do is reschedule your time so that you can give a try and resume your work as quitting a job is easy but then you need to think about the financial constraint that you may face after quitting the job. Maternity leave period is the time wherein you can introspect yourself and decide what is the next best step to take care of not only your baby but even your job.

Taking up part time job or telecommuting is another way where you can still take care of your baby if you are not sure of resuming work. Some women are happy to resume work by keeping their baby’s at day care centre so the choice is entirely yours whether to resume work full time or work part time.

There have been cases where in spite of having resumed work women have felt the need to tender in their resignation. You need to handle the resignation part with total professionalism making use of the resignation letter template.

Who to hand over your resignation letter template?

Before you put in your resignation letter you need to discuss it with your boss as a resignation letter is just a legal formality which can be done by handing over your letter to either your boss or the head of the human resource department.

What goes into drafting a resignation template letter?

There are certain basic things that you need to note down while drafting a resignation letter like: Date, Name and the designation of your boss, the name of your company, company’s address including the name of the city, state and pin code of the place.

After writing down all this you can always start the letter with Dear Sir or Boss and then draft the letter by stating that you are resigning from your official position from the date you have decided to quit the job.

You can further state that you were happy working for the company and that you shall help train the person the company hires for the job so that the company works smoothly.

You can always end the letter with a word or two of praise for the company and wish them all the best signing off with yours sincerely, your name, complete postal address including the name of the city, state and pin code.

What other information should be added to the letter?

If you are not going to return to work you need to make the letter as friendly as possible though you can mention that in future if time and circumstances permit you would definitely like to join the company again. You need to put in your resignation letter at least two weeks in advance as giving the company your resignation notice will help them to hire replacement for the job.

Know the legal implications before you tender your resignation:

Under the FMLA rules if you fail to resume work after the maternity leave then you are entitled to lose all the benefits of maternity leave which you received while on maternity leave.

There are many websites which will give you more information regarding maternity leave and resignation details like U.S. Department of Labor Compliance Assistance – Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Workplace Law Network, Labor Law Talk etc.

Different companies have different laws regarding maternity leave and resignation so you need to contact your human resources department to know more about the company’s laws before you tender in your resignation letter.
