Missing A Period

Missing a period does not automatically mean that a woman is pregnant. There are many reasons other than pregnancy why a woman can miss a period.

Indeed many women could be ignoring serious health problems by assuming they are pregnant when they miss a period. A missed period can be a symptom of very serious health problems.

It is also possible for a healthy woman to miss a period without being pregnant or having serious health problems. Indeed missing a period might not be a serious problem at all. There are causes to missed periods that can be fairly minor.

Stress and Menstruation

Stress can have a big impact on menstruation, being under a lot of stress can even cause a woman not to have her period. If a woman has been under a lot of stress for any reason such as financial problems, family problems, marital discord or worries about a loved she can miss her period.

Women should be careful about stress because it can have serious effects on their reproductive system. If you start missing periods or having other symptoms because of stress you should look into stress reduction techniques.

Yoga, therapy, lifestyle changes, prayer, vacations and meditation can all be effective stress fighters. In many cases simply reducing stress can help a woman start having normal periods again.

Hormonal Changes

Menstruation is controlled by hormones so any change in a woman’s hormones can affect menstruation. Changes in diet and sudden weight gains or weight losses can often affect a woman’s period.

Women suffering from malnutrition have been known to stop menstruating. Since foods can affect hormones, changes in diet can affect menstruation. So can supplements and vitamins that women are taking.

Birth control pills can have a big impact on menstruation and even prevent menstruation. Most birth control pills are based on hormones so they can have a big impact on menstruation.

The so-called no period pill is a kind of birth control pill that actually stops women from having periods. This pill works by changing a woman’s hormonal balance in order to prevent menstruation.

Not Missing a Period

In some cases a woman may not be missing a period at all. It is very easy for a woman to miscalculate the time period between periods. The standard amount of time between periods is 28 days.

Yet is entirely possible for the time between periods to vary, it can be between 21 and 35 days in healthy women. Stress, hormones and other factors can cause the time to vary. As can pregnancy and some physical factors.

The onset of menopause can also cause a period to be late or delayed. Even though menopause usually happens around age 50 it can start earlier in some women. Women over 40 can start menopause at any time.

Don’t Panic

The worst thing that a woman can do if she misses a period is to panic. Instead of panicking a woman should take control of the situation by going to her doctor. In many cases a simple checkup will be all that is necessary to end a woman’s worries.
