Causes of Long Menstrual CyclesThere are a lot of things that can cause a woman to have a long menstrual cycle. Most of them involve changes in the level of hormones in her body. Many women experience no periods or long menstrual cycles when they are breastfeeding. This is probably related to hormone levels in the body. Others will see changes in their menstrual cycle after pregnancy. Pregnancy completely changes a woman’s hormonal makeup which can affect menstruation. Any change in the chemicals affecting the body can affect hormones and menstruation. Many women see changes in menstruation when taking certain kinds of birth control pills which are hormone based. The “no period” pill is a birth control that is actually designed to prevent periods. Changes in diet and some drugs also affect hormones and menstruation. Eating certain foods or not eating certain foods can affect hormones. So can consuming certain herbal supplements and herbal extracts. Hormone therapy can also affect menstruation. Anything that can affect hormones can potentially affect menstruation. Long Menstruation Cycles and PregnancyLong menstruation cycles may not necessarily accept a woman’s chances of getting pregnant. The reason for this is that ovulation and menstruation are not necessarily connected. A woman’s body can actually go through ovulation that is produce an egg without going through menstruation. A woman can also go through menstruation without going through ovulation. This is why women sometimes can’t get pregnant by timing their menstrual cycles. It is also why timing of the menstrual cycles isn’t a very good method of birth control. This means that having long menstrual cycles shouldn’t affect a woman’s chances of getting pregnant. A woman should be able to get pregnant even if she has long menstrual cycles. Hormones and Menstrual Cycles A woman might be able to affect the length of her menstrual cycles by changing her diet. Increasing the consumption of supplements or foods that affect hormones might affect menstrual cycles. Decreasing the consumption of some kinds of foods and supplements could also affect menstrual cycles. |
