What is meant by ovulation?

Ovulation as you know is the period when ovaries release one or more eggs or ovum in each monthly menstrual cycle.

What is ovulation and how is pregnancy connected to ovulation?

As a woman you should know that in order to conceive you need to know your ovulation period so that you can conceive faster. It has been found that many a time’s women become pregnant without actually knowing when the ovulation period occurred. Sometimes it has been found that they may not have planned to get pregnant and not having known the ovulation period got into the mess of pregnancy. But knowing your ovulation period you can conceive without any trouble.

There are signs which show that you are nearing your ovulation period and the signs are

1. By noting your basal body temperature
2. There is a marked increase in the cervical fluid secretion
3. Change in the position of the cervix which becomes firm during ovulation
4. There is a considerable change and increase in the body libido
5. It has been noticed that during ovulation there is an increase in the tenderness of the breast
6. Some women suffer from abdominal cramps or Mittelschmerz as the eggs are released from either of the ovaries.

Basal Body Temperature or BBT: This is the first step towards knowing your ovulation period, if you keep the track of your basal body temperature and compare them for two or three consecutive months you will know your ovulating period making it easier for you to get pregnant.

BBT is a method where you monitor your body temperature as it has been seen that there is a gradual rise in the body temperature when you near your ovulation period and this rise in the temperature is there till the time of your monthly menstrual cycle. You need to check your body temperature at the same time everyday keeping in mind that there should have been no physical exertion before the time of checking the body temperature.

Ovulation Predictor kits or OPK is yet another way to keep track of your ovulation period and this kit has given positive results as it has been seen that ovulation usually occurs within a span of around 36-48 hours making it easier for you to conceive faster and easily.

Cervical Mucus: This is yet another simple and cost free method as you need to note that there is a change in the cervical fluid as you approach your ovulation period, drinking plenty of water helps improve the cervical fluid in the body as this helps the easy movement of the sperms when they are released while having a sexual intercourse making it reach faster and fertilize with the ripe ovum that has been released by the ovaries during ovulation.

To increase your chance of conceiving you need to have more of sexual relationship with your partner especially during your fertile period so that you can successfully get pregnant.
