Stretch Marks During Pregnancy A Common Problem

One of the most common effects of pregnancy is that of stretch marks though with pregnancy there are other problems like backaches, nausea, and urge to urinate frequently but then stretch marks are the most distinct feature of pregnancy. Irrespective of the human color or race stretch marks are the most prominent feature of pregnancy.

These stretch marks appear when the stomach starts growing big due to the growth of the baby especially during the last trimester. Many a times with the advancement in pregnancy these stretch marks get bigger and they are not only visible in the abdominal region but can be seen on the breasts, thighs, buttocks, back etc depending upon the genetic conditions and the weight gained during pregnancy.

The stretch marks fade away with time but then in some cases they are very severe and do not fade leaving deep scars on the skin. There are different modes of treatment to help get rid of these stretch marks but then not all of them are successful. Some creams that are can be bought over the counter and state that they are useful to remove stretch marks are really not very effective as they help sooth the itching around the stretch marks and in some cases they have shown to have side effects which can do more damage than help.

To prevent stretch marks you can take a few precautions like

1. You need to have a well balanced nutritious diet which will help you to maintain your weight. As having a well balanced diet will help the healthy development of your baby and with this diet you can also maintain your skin. What you need to understand is that during pregnancy you will put on weight but then a controlled weight gain is more important as this will slow down the rate of stretch marks developing on the abdomen.

2. You can also massage your body where there are stretch marks so that you can prevent stretch marks from further developing as massaging or using a body brush will increase the blood circulation on the area which will help reduce the stretch marks.

3. Increase the water intake in your body as this will prevent dehydration which will help the overall toning of the skin and the proper growth and development of your baby.

4. You should also keep your body moisturized especially during the first two trimesters and you can also moisturize your body through out your pregnancy. Using of moisturizers retain the elasticity and suppleness of the skin. This also helps to increase the production of collagen in the body.

Pregnancy and stretch marks are interrelated and all you need to do is take care of your diet and body so that you will develop less of these marks. Though you cannot avoid stretch marks during pregnancy you can at least prevent their rapid formation on your body. With the passage of time these stretch marks will definitely fade away leaving your skin supple and beautiful.
