Dark Circles Treatment - How To Get Rid of Dark Circles

Definition

Dark circles under the eyes are an extremely common and distressing issue. Dark circles make you look older, tired, stressed, sick, depressed and just plain bad. When blood passes through the large veins close to the surface of the skin it can produce a bluish tint.

Dark circles make you look older, tired, stressed, sick, depressed and just plain bad.

Three things contribute to dark rings under the eyes:

  • an inherited tendency
  • natural aging processes
  • lack of sleep

Dark Circles Causes

Dark circles under the eyes are common but usually not permanent. They're often due to temporary changes in the blood vessels under the eyes. The skin and the muscles that enclose the upper and lower eyelids loseelasticity, which can result in the underlying fat to bulge out. Other causesof under-eye bags and puffiness are genetics, lack of sleep and allergies. Puffiness from fluid retention, weather or hormone levels are the most common culprits and can be addressed with topical care.

Dark circles are also caused by chronic sinus infections, recurrent colds, or blockage of the nose by large adenoids. (If the dark circles are caused by large adenoids, your child probably breathes mostly through his mouth instead of his nose.) Dark circles under the eyes are especially noticeable in children with fair complexions.

While dark circles under the eyes may be a bothersome cosmetic problem, they're very common and generally aren't considered too much of a health hazard.

Treatment

Facial moisturizers will not turn back the clock on aging or replace eye creams, they are merely an effective way to alleviate dry skin. You should find and use a product that contains active antiaging ingredients that does not add unnecessary oils to the skin.No eye product or cream should cause burning or stinging in the eye. If you experience these types of symptoms, discontinue use immediately.

Any medications that you are taking that cause blood vessels to dilate; can cause circles under the eyes to darken. Because the skin under the eyes is very delicate, any increase blood flow shows through the skin.

Another important treatment is for people with darker skin pigmentation, bleaching agents or products containing alpha-hydroxy acids or vitamin A acids which help lighten the dark circles. However, these creams can cause redness and skin irritations, so these remedies should not be attempted without consulting a physician.
