Green Tea and Pregnancy

Since thousands of years green tea is considered a very popular beverage in the Chinese and Japanese subcontinent. It is also known all over the world for its wide range of health benefits. But the pregnant women are often seen to be restricted from the consumption of green tea during the stages of pregnancy. A moderate quantity of green is fine to be consumed during pregnancy but increased intake of green tea consumption is injurious to health.

Harmful ingredients for pregnant women

The green tea is known to have all ingredients like anti-oxidants which are responsible for eliminating dental problems and lowering the levels of cholesterol. But the EGCG or epigallocatechin molecules affect the way the folate is used by the body. Though green tea is rich in anti-oxidants and other kinds of health beneficial ingredients still then the pregnant women are advised not to have a large intake of green tea. They should also be very much careful about the intake of any green tea supplements as well. The main side effect of green tea consumption is generally observed are low weight or miscarriage. The amount of green tea recommended to women who are in the advanced stages of their pregnancy is 3 cups per day. Moderate consumption of caffeine through green tea would reduce the chances of miscarriage. Two of Danish scientists after having interviewed eighty eight thousand women and one other research carried by that of the Yale University School of Medicine held a similar view on the consumption of caffeine.

Safety and availability of Green Teas

The green teas can also be labelled as herbal teas and are generally known to be very effective for weight loss. According to the medical researches it has been concluded that it is safe to consume this herbal. It is known to decrease the time and length of labor and also aids in the decrease of the number of interventions observed during the stages of pregnancy. The herbal teas are also known for their pre-term or post-term gestation. As this herbal tea is rich in the mineral called iron it also helps in the toning of uterus and also increases the production of milk. The promotion of the health of urine during the pregnancy stages is done by that of herbal teas. The green tea is available in all the contemporary markets and the herbal departmental stores. They are not exhorbitantly priced and are highly affordable by all sorts of customers. So it is wise for pregnant women to keep the consumption of green tea to a moderate level.
