What is the meaning of Bowleg?

Because of the position that a baby holds in the uterus, it is very normal for a child to be born bowlegged. This is a condition that is going to increase up to the age of about 18 months and then, it will gradually change and your child will start to develop straight and normal legs naturally. By the time your child is about 3 to 4 years of age, he will develop the knock knee configuration where the knees are actually bended towards the outside. However, by the age of six, this is also going to disappear and naturally, this process will lead to normal and structured knees and legs.

Complications

There are however some cases where you will see that the child will continue to have bowlegs even after he has passed 24 months and this is something that will need to be checked with your pediatrician. He may want to take an X-ray and do some tests to consider the possibilities.

Most of the common problems related to bow legs can be related to serious injuries, or it could be related nutrition and absorption problems, and it can also be related to diseases like rickets or Blount’s diseases.

A child will be diagnosed with bow legs if his condition does not change in the natural way within the specific time frame. The doctor will be able to diagnose the condition through an X-ray and sometimes you can even find that one of the knees is having the abnormality only.

A child suffering from bow legs will definitely have some problems walking, and although there is no cure for this disease, if it does not change naturally, then the child will have to wear special shoes or braces as he grows older, and the doctor may even think about surgery to change the shape, although this is considered to be a very rare condition.

There are cases where the condition is extremely bad and the child needs to have a lot of attention right from the time when they start walking, however, with most cases, this is all a part of the natural growth and the way how nature balances the weight of the physical body allowing growing gradually and steadily.

Following the Trend of Nature

Once the bow leg condition changes to knock knees, then you can be assured that your child is not having any physical problems.
